8 Effective SEO Tips for Niche Websites

A niche website is great because it allows you to focus on a small subject matter.

The problem is that you also need to reach the right traffic.

We all know how search engine optimization (SEO) could help drive traffic.

However, SEO implementation for a niche website is much more complicated.

While it shares similarities with usual SEO, there are some things you need to do better.

What are these?

Today, I will show you 8 effective SEO tips for niche websites.

By the end of this tutorial, you should be able to implement them, and then see your traffic grow over time.

1.Research keywords of buyers or readers

At the heart of every search engine optimization action plan is the usage of the right keywords. Keywords are what search engines index.

If you do not use the correct keywords, the search engines will not know how to index your content.

The way a keyword works is simple. If it is in your content, the search engine indexes that page and assigns the keyword.

If a user types the keyword, the search engine searches its database for all contents that have that keyword, and they are shown on the search engine results pages (SERPs).

Here are the benefits of using the right keywords for your niche website:

  • You will have better search rankings
  • Your site gets exposed to more people
  • You get more free and organic traffic
  • You can expect to improve your conversion

If you target the right keywords, the people who will come to your website are those who are looking for the information or product that you are offering.

As such, you have to research keywords that your target market is looking for. But how?

The one that I would immediately recommend is Google Trends.

It is a free tool where you can type your desired keyword, and it tells you the level of search interest in the Google Universe.

You can also use other tools like Semrush and Google Keyword Planner

2.Make sure your website is fast

Why is this even important?

A slow website makes people leave your domain, even if they have not seen your page yet.

Research shows that it takes only three seconds for people to leave a website.

If the website does not load at that time, the user begins to feel that the site is amateur.

Another issue with a slow website is that Google itself does not like it.

What Google wants is a website that adds value to its users—websites that serve the best interest of the users.

A slow website is not one of them.

As far as SEO is concerned, Google knows how fast your website loads.

If it is below the acceptable minimum, Google is not going to show your website on the SERPs.

To check your website speed, follow these steps:

From the results, you can get insights from Google.

You can tell your web developer to fix these problems.

If you do not have a web developer, you can contact your web hosting service provider and ask for advice.

You can also use free tools like GMetrix, but Google should still be your primary method.

3.Publish relevant and quality content

This is the SEO area where a lot of people fail.

There was a time when keywords were the only thing that mattered. Today, not anymore.

Google has become so smart in measuring the quality of a page’s content.

This is why in your Google Analytics page, there are metrics there that measure the following:

  • Bounce rate – measures the number of people who left the same page that they came in
  • Session duration – the length of time that a user spent on your website

Both of these metrics are important to your search engine optimization efforts.

If people are leaving from the same page, it means your content is not interesting.

If they are not spending time on your site, it also means your content is not interesting.

So, if the bounce rate is high, and your session duration is low, Google is not likely to show your content at the top of the search results.

What you have to do is to publish content that makes a user learn.

You can do this by writing how-tos, guides, and product comparisons.

If you do not write high-quality content, both Google and users will not be happy—and if this happens, all your other SEO efforts will be thrown out the window.

4.Use images and videos

I know that securing images and videos that are free from copyright is difficult.

However, it is necessary.

Why?

Images and videos make people stay on your website.

According to a study, websites with images and videos get 97% more content than others.

Here are some more things you need to know:

  • Images bring life to your pages – they make your pages look more professional
  • Images help visual learners – there are people who retain information better with images, and this is why you should use infographics
  • Images also help in SEO – you can use alternative text for your images so search engines can index them, too.
  • Images encourage users to share – if your web content has images, the site visitors are more likely to share the content on their sites.

As you can see, images and videos make your site visitors stay. And not only that, but they also encourage people to take action.

If you want, you can observe how images and videos affect SEO for your niche website.

What I recommend that you do is that you integrate Google Search Console with your website, and then you can measure the changes in your traffic after implementing this approach.

5.Use the skyscraper technique

What is the skyscraper technique?

This is a technique where you do something better than your competitors. Your goal is to produce content that is longer, better, and more valuable than everyone’s.

How do you do this?

Here are the steps I recommend:

  • Search for content in Google on the same topic as yours
  • Open the first three results that are not ads
  • Read them
  • Write something better than them

Does this work?

Yes, it does, ad let me explain. Google loves long content.

However, Google hates spam and fluff. So, if you write long content, you must write one that is long but is also valuable.

If you write longer content, it is likely for Google to give your page more priority than the others.

Second, users who find your content will naturally consume what they can learn about it.

And if they stay longer, Google will know.

In addition to this, if your users love what you write, they are likely to check out other pages from your website.

As you can see, Google will know about this, too.

As a result, Google is going to increase your rank in the search results pages, and you will get more traffic.

6.Use transparency pages

Perhaps you have not heard about this yet.

These are transparency pages:

  • About us
  • Terms and Conditions
  • Privacy policy

Really? Are these important for SEO?

Yes, they are, especially so if you are operating a website that has something to do with security, health, and money.

Google once released an update called YMYL or E-A-T. YMYL stands for Your Money, Your Life. E-A-T means expertise, authority, and trust.

The goal of the update is to ensure that all websites that are talking about a person’s life and money will be scrutinized.

If you do not have expertise, authority, and trust, your website is no longer going to rank.

How the Google robots score your authority and expertise is beyond me.

But it is important that you have these pages as they are now part of how Google decides whether to show your pages to its users or not.

7.Use keywords correctly

Now that you have the right keywords, the next step is to use them correctly.

For one, do not stuff your content with keywords.

There was a time when it was easy to rank on Google. Just fill your pages with keywords, and then Google will rank you high up on the SERPs.

This does not work anymore. Google hates keyword stuffing.

Also, there is no such thing as the right keyword density. However, any experts agree that 0.50% is ideal.

Here are the best places where you should place your keywords:

  • Title – make sure that the keyword is in your title. This is the first thing that search engines will index.
  • Start of the body – use the keyword early in your text to reinforce to the reader what you will discuss.
  • In sub-heading – use the keyword in one or a couple of sub-headings to reinforce it to search engines.

This is not a formula. My advice is that you use the keyword where they flow naturally.

If the keyword usage is unnatural, Google will also know about it, and the robots will think you are spamming or gaming the system.

8.Build backlinks to your site

The last advice I have to improve your SEO for a niche website is to build backlinks.

You want other websites to refer your website.

Not only will this send traffic to you, but it will also tell Google that you are trusted.

A backlink is a vote of confidence.

It tells search engines that other websites trust you enough that they will refer their readers to you.

There are many ways to get a backlink.

You can pay a website to post your article, and from that article, you create a backlink to your site.

It is called guest posting. The second method is link swapping, which you can do with other bloggers.

You can find these bloggers in blogs like Backlink Society.

Whatever it is, do not buy backlinks.

These links come from spammy websites, and Google is going to penalize you.

Instead of ranking high on SEO, you will not get ranked, and it is going to take some time to get Google’s trust again.

Summary: 8 Effective SEO Tips for Niche Websites

I want to stress here that SEO is not a magic tool.

There is no such thing. There is no magic formula or activity that you can do that will guarantee positive results for your business.

As you do your SEO correctly, you also have to think about the quality of your content.

Google is continuously improving its algorithm, the aim of which is to provide users with the best content out there.

Over time, your site will get impacted by these changes.

Do your SEO correctly and provide value to your target clients.

This is the only way to get traffic to your website.

If you cannot provide quality, hire an affordable web content writer who will do it for you.
