BlueHost vs. InMotion Hosting: what is the better hosting service provider?

Today, I will be reviewing two more web hosting service providers.

I am sure you have heard of Bluehost a lot, as this is one of the most popular web hosting service providers in the world.

However, InMotion is a contender.

So, BlueHost vs. InMotion Hosting: what is the right choice?

By the end of this comparison review, you should be able to make this decision.

What is BlueHost?

BlueHost is an online service provider dedicated to web hosting.

They are responsible for making your website, its pages, and its contents accessible through the online web.

It offers flexible hosting solutions such as:

  • Shared Hosting
  • WordPress Hosting
  • VPS Hosting
  • Dedicated Hosting
  • Reseller Hosting

The platform has been offering its services since 2003.

This was founded by Matt Heaton and Danny Ashworth who are both based in Utah.

They arrived at the idea because of their common goal of creating a hosting company that is better than the rest.

Over the years, they have gained countless partnerships.

This includes them being a part of the Endurance International Group since 2010.

As of the moment, they are in service of more than 2 million domains.

What is InMotion Hosting?

InMotion Hosting, similar to BlueHost, also offers web hosting services.

Here are the hosting plans available in their platform:

  • Shared Hosting for websites
  • WordPress Hosting if you want to build on WordPress
  • VPS Hosting for big companies
  • Dedicated Hosting
  • Reseller Hosting for those who want to sell hosting services

This is only a little bit older than the former as InMotion was founded in 2001.

The aim of Sunil Saxena, and Todd Robinson, the brains behind the concept of the company, is to aid small and medium-sized businesses with their online needs.

InMotion Hosting is part of Web Ventures.

This helps them with their goal of investing in small-time technologies.

Currently, their team consists of over 300 employees who are experts in the field.

Features of BlueHost

BlueHost offers numerous hosting features that serve different purposes.

As the online platform is prone to a lot of risks and potential issues, BlueHost is equipped with various security features to strengthen the user’s environment.

To be specific, here are some functions under this goal:

1. Spam Solutions

The service provider has three built-in applications that will help reduce, and potentially totally get rid of spam mails in your inbox.

In particular, these are Spam Assassin, Spam Experts, and Spam Hammer.

Spam Assassin is free and included in all hosting plans.

This will scan every incoming message, and will give it a score depending on its format.

A high score means that the mail is most likely spam, and a low score is an authentic mail.

Spam Experts, and Spam Hammer, on the other hand, are both required to be purchased in the platform’s marketplace.

These can be enabled and disabled through the cPanel.

They recommend, however, that you use one application at a time when starting out except if your site needs more.

2. Complementary Backups

Your data is also protected through system backups.

Depending on your settings, this can be done daily, weekly, or monthly.

With this, it is less likely for you to worry about losing all of your site’s information whenever there are problems with the connection and/or the server.

3. 24/7 System Monitor

Lastly, the system also monitors the condition of the servers and websites to detect existing issues.

This will also look out for viruses and other attempted attacks.

The monitor runs 24/7 to assure that no threats will be missed.

Other security features involve SSL certificates and secured access servers.

Aside from providing a fully-functional hosting platform, BlueHost also offers features that will assist you with email needs.

Here are some:

  • POP3 Secure Email Support
  • IMAP Email Support
  • Web-Based Email Solutions

Website scripts like form-mail and mailing lists are also provided for free.

Specifically, this will help you access your emails in more ways than one.

For example, POP3 will allow you to download emails and access them even if you don’t have an internet connection.

Another factor that is given attention is the e-commerce field.

With these features, your site will be up and ready to be a profiting site.

This is most helpful for online stores as this can optimize one’s functions more.

The above features can also put the site at an advantage from its competitors.

4. Customer Support

As for the platform’s customer service, you have two options:

Live Chat

This is available 24/7. All you have to do is to go to their website, and a chat button is already accessible on the dashboard.

Phone Support

BlueHost provides separate contact numbers for concerns based in the United States, and for the international calls.

Unfortunately, due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, their available hours are only from 8 AM to 9 PM EST.

Browsing their blog posts can also assist you with general concerns.

The features that stand out the most lies in the security solutions that they offer.

Along with this, their WordPress integrations are also note-worthy.

Features of InMotion Hosting

Here are the features of the hosting service provider:

1. Hack Protection

With InMotion, you will have the benefit of being able to set up hack protection.

This will eliminate your doubts when it comes to unwanted attacks, both from bots and hackers.

These hack protection services are installable through the one-click installation system of the platform.

There are numerous applications available, but some of the most recommended, which are stated in their blog articles, is Jetpack Security Services, and Sucuri.

Some apps will require a password.

Keep in mind that the password/s that you will set will play a large role in the effectiveness of their services.

2. DDoS Protection

To briefly describe DDoS, it involves botnets or malware that will release an overwhelming amount of fake traffic to your site.

This may affect your site’s performance and slow its response time.

To prevent this, the web hosting platform has built-in site protection for this specific type of attacks.

3. Modifiable Firewall

You have full control over the firewall that will be used to power your website’s security.

You will be able to customize its settings according to what your website requires to fully maximize its potential.

4. Custom Caching System

Similar to the firewall, you can also customize the caching system to cater to your website’s needs.

This way, you can also monitor the caching status and adjust it depending on your current online resources.

5. SSD Storage

This type of drive will run the servers faster than older storage versions.

These are also more power-efficient compared to HDDs which are used by other platforms.

6. Data Backups

Similar to BlueHost, free data backups are also done to prevent issues of data loss.

7. Website Migration

One of the most helpful features brought by the brand is the free website migration services.

You can transfer up to 3 websites and accounts to your InMotion account.

However, if you need to process above the maximum amount, there is a fee of $10 per additional site.

They also provide assistance during the process through their troubleshoot centres.

8. Web Builder

Aside from being a web host, they are also equipped with a feature that will allow users to create and design their pages without having to turn to another service provider.

The web builder feature does not require any type of coding at all.

The interface is built as a drag-and-drop, so even a user with no experience can easily go on to designing.

9. Customer Support

Lastly, for customer support, you can opt for the choices below:

  • Live Chat
  • Phone Support

Both are available 24/7 so reaching them won’t be too hard.

The problem, however, is that they only have one line of phone number for customer concerns which can be a hassle at some point.

What you need to know about InMotion Hosting is that different hosting plans have different features.

This means that one function in a specific plan may not be present in another.

BlueHost Pricing

The price of BlueHost’s packages depends on the type of hosting that you will avail. The one below is for WordPress.

  • Basic: Starts at $2.95/month, one website, 50GB SSD Storage, five parked domains, 25 subdomains
  • Plus: Starts at $5.45/month, unlimited websites, unlimited SSD Storage, unlimited parked domains, unlimited subdomains

InMotion Hosting Pricing

Like the former, InMotion also offers different plans for every hosting solution.

Here are the plans for WordPress websites.

  • WP-1000s – the service is only available one or two-year plans. With this plan, you will pay $8.99/month. You can build one website and have a maximum of 20,000 monthly visitors, 50 GB of SD Storage, and 4x performance and speed.
  • WP-2000s – only available in 1-2 year plans, starts at $11.99/month. With this plan, you can build two websites. Your traffic is increased to 50,000 monthly visitors. Storage is at 100, and you will get 6x performance and speed.
  • WP-3000s – starts at $14.99/month; you can build three websites, and you have a maximum of 125,000 monthly visitors. This will also give you 150 GB of SSD Storage and 8x performance and speed.
  • WP-4000s – the most expensive plan at $8.99/month. You will have six websites, a maximum of 300,000 monthly visitors, 200GB SSD Storage, 12x performance and speed.

The disadvantage that you will run into is that the cheapest plans are not available for monthly upfront.

A good thing, however, is that you can get great discounts by availing the 1-year and 2-year plans.

Summary: BlueHost vs. InMotion Hosting

My final recommendation is to use BlueHost; there really is nothing in InMotion that BlueHost does not have.

The reason I am recommending BlueHost is that it has been in service for a long time.

It is reliable. And most importantly, it only costs less than $3 per month to host your website.
