Yes, it does.
Many people think that SEO is always a straightforward action.
An action where you try to convince the search engines to give more weight to your content.
This is partially true, but there are more things that search engines like Google look for than keywords.
One commonly missed SEO tactic is email marketing.
Why? Because people think that it is only used for marketing—to get clients.
Today, I will explain how email marketing help with SEO.
I will also share with you some tips on how to get it done right.
By the end of this tutorial, you should be able to jumpstart your marketing campaign and then hit two birds with one stone.
How does email marketing help with SEO?
In email marketing, you send emails to people who subscribed to your website.
It is your duty to send new content via mail, and make sure that this is done on a regular basis.
There are three main methods by which email marketing help with SEO.
These three are:
- Reduces Bounce Rate
- Helps Drive Traffic
- Improves Session Time
Let us talk about each one so you could better understand.
By the way, as far as SEO is concerned, I am mainly focused on Google.
Reduces Bounce Rate
Google measures what s called bounce rate.
A bounce rate is the percentage of bounces against your total number of visits.
What is a bounce?
If a customer visited one of your web pages and made an exit on that page without visiting another one, it is a bounce.
A bounce is not always bad, but a really high bounce rate is not also good.
There is no magic number as to what the ideal bounce rate is.
The point is that if site visitors check out your other pages, it sends a signal to Google that you are delivering great content.
If a person bounces, it is like saying that your content is not good.
And because it is not good, the site visitor did not even bother checking your other pages.
On some occasions, a bounce rate does not matter.
For example, if your website is about converting meters to inches, it is natural for people to bounce after they got the answer they are looking for.
If you are operating a weather website, then a high bounce rate is also not uncommon.
Google knows all these things, and it is up to Google to decide whether your bounce rate is relevant or not.
Generally speaking, a high bounce rate is bad because most of us operate e-commerce sites or blog sites.
With the kind of sites that we operate, what we want is for people to stay and explore our content.
If you send emails to subscribers, it is likely that you reduce your bounce rate. Why?
If a subscriber gets a notification from you, he will open your email, then click on your link.
It is likely that he likes your content already and may explore other content that he has not seen before.
Google will record this behaviour.
As time goes on, Google realizes that if you have a low bounce rate, you are providing high-quality content to your users.
And guess what happens?
Google will show your pages more often on the top of its search results.
Helps Drive Traffic
This is pretty much a no-brainer.
If you have 10,000 subscribers with an engagement of just 3%, what it means is that for every email you send, 300 people open it and visit your site.
If you send one email a week, that is 1,200 traffic from your email marketing campaign alone.
It may sound small, but the traffic of 1,200 per month is not an easy thing to achieve, especially so if you are a solopreneur.
Now, how does this help with SEO?
Your traffic is an important factor that Google checks.
It is one of the metrics that Google takes into account to determine how to rank your website against your competitors.
As you get more traffic, Google will begin to think that you must be providing high-quality content.
And if your website is getting consistent traffic from a source, Google will also think that you have a following.
Naturally, the algorithm is going to conduct its own experiments.
It is going to show your content to more people.
And if the people click your page, read the page, and stay on them for a while, then Google will make a decision to put your page at the top of the search engine results pages (SERPs).
Improves Session Time
Another thing that Google measures is your average session duration.
This metric refers to the length of time users spend on your website without a 30-minute interval.
The longer the session duration, the better it is for you.
Why is this important?
You see, Google only wants the best for its users.
One indicator of whether you are providing good content or not is how long a user stayed on your page.
From a logical standpoint, the longer a person stays on your site, the better your content is.
Why else will someone spend 20 minutes in your site if he is not enjoying it, right?
Again, there is an exception to the rules.
If you are operating a measurement or a weather website, we cannot expect people to stay there for many minutes.
Less than 30 seconds is enough.
For these websites, session duration is not an issue.
However, if you are operating an e-commerce website or an affiliate marketing blog, you must have a high average session duration.
So, how does this affect SEO?
Remember, your subscribers love your content.
They subscribed because they are interested in what you have to say.
If you send them an email, and then they clicked on your link, they are likely to stay in your site and read your content.
As your average session duration grows, Google will take notice of it.
Eventually, Google will put you higher in the SERPs.
How to start email marketing
What you have to do is to start your email subscription campaign first.
To be able to do this, you need tools that will help you plan your email marketing strategy.
Here are the things you need to prepare:
- Autoresponder – this is a tool that allows you to build an email capture form, and then embed the form on your website. There are many free tools out there, but my favourite is GetResponse. In my GetResponse review, you will see more details about what this tool can do.
- Lead Magnets – a lead magnet is something that you offer for free in exchange for the subscriber’s email address. The lead magnet is what will entice the site visitor to give you his email address. The lead magnet should be a downloadable digital product or a discount code. It is up to you. This is also why you need an autoresponder. It is the autoresponder that will automatically deliver your lead magnet once a person subscribes.
So far, these are the only two main things you need.
Before you set-up your autoresponder, you must first prepare your lead magnet.
It is wise to decide which is the best lead magnet for your target audience before you buy or use an autoresponder.
Once you have both ready, it is time to start driving your email marketing campaign.
Tips for a Successful Email Marketing Campaign
Now, let me show you some of the things I did, which helped me drive successful email marketing campaigns.
Email marketing for SEO is a cheap yet effective way to drive traffic to your website.
However, you need the right tools to make it work.
Without an autoresponder, you will be relying on default email capture forms in WordPress or your website builder.
From there, you will have to send emails manually, and yet you cannot count how many people opened it or clicked your links.
The only best way to do this right is to first create a lead magnet, and then use an autoresponder, my recommendation of which is GetResponse.

Yes, it does. And you have to start one right now.
I also have to tell you that email marketing is a difficult method to get more audience.
However, it is one of the most effective.
What I mean by this is that with email marketing, you are targeting people who we consider as “warm” traffic.
These are people who are already interested in what you have to offer.
What I can say is that it takes a while to get subscribers.
This is why you need to focus on content.
The two types of content you need to work on are your website content and your lead magnet.

Focus on the grand scheme or plan of your business, and then let the writer do the hard work.
