Essentially, the goal is to find the right keywords that people are searching for on Google.
If you use these keywords in your product pages, Google will index that page and will show it to users.
Monitor Daily Search Trends
To optimize your website’s product page, it is important to frequently conduct a thorough market research regarding most-searched trends in search engines.
You can do this effectively by using Google Trends. They have a feature called “Trending Searches”, which can be accessed in the site’s sidebar.
This will show you all the trending searches of the day. These data are grouped in two tabs, specifically:
- Daily Search Trends
- Real-Time Search Trends
In the Daily Search Trends, you will have access to the top searched keywords of the current date, and the day before that.
As you can see, for August 21, 2020, the top 3 most looked-up on Google are:
- Dallas Stars
- Brayden Harrington
- BTS Dynamite
For the 20th of August, on the other hand, we have:
- Steve Bannon
- NBA Draft Lottery
This means that, technically, you will be able to see two days’ worth of search results.
For Real-Time Search Trends, you will have access to the top keywords entered within the past 24 hours.
You can narrow the results down according to its category by clicking the drop-down button at the right side of the screen.
As you can see, there are 5 niches that you can choose from: Business, Entertainment, Health, Sci/Tech, and Sports.
You can also view the Top Stories which will show you the most viewed articles. This also spans up to the past 24 hours.
If these results are still not accurate enough for you, you can change the location settings. Currently it is set to United States.
If we change it to United Kingdom, here is what happens:
The results for all categories also vary.
It will be helpful for you to skim through all the countries’ popular searches to get a hold of what’s in.
You can use these features to make your website stay relevant and updated.
These will help you in decision-making later on as you are listing things that can optimize your product pages.
You can also use this to track and monitor daily trends and determine which of them is likely to last long.
You can also make comparisons between days and their results.
Aside from relevancy purposes, this will also be advantageous if made a basis for new contents and designs for your product pages.
You can make the daily trends as new topics for articles, or incorporate them in the appearance, itself, of your website’s pages.
Optimize Keyword Involvement
SEO or Search Engine Optimization is a very important factor that will affect your website’s visibility. This is not only applicable in blog articles. This also plays a vital role when it comes to product descriptions and tags.
To do this, you should first look up keywords related to your product in the Explore section of Google Trend. This can also be accessed through the sidebar.
This is what you’ll land on:
Suppose that your product is under cosmetics, specifically, a face powder.
You can look it up on Google Trend to determine its search rate.
The interest over time ranges from a scale of 0 to 100.
A search count of 0 means that the topic or product is rarely sought out by users while higher numbers show that it is high in demand.
Note that it is not literally the number of times that it is searched because Google Trend does not show the exact statistical data. The score of 0 to 100 is an index.
You can also change the factors of the results in order to have results that fit your page more.
You can modify the country. Currently, it is set in “Worldwide” which means that you are seeing the average search results for face powder internationally.
You can also change the time span of the results. It is set to “Past 12 months” on default.
This will show you the keywords’ search rate for the whole rate.
You can minimize it up to the past hour and stretch it up to the year 2004.
If you prefer, you can also customize your own time range by clicking the last option which the “Customised time range”.
This is the toolbar that you will see if you choose the said option.
You can fully control the date on where it starts and when it will end.
Moving on, you can also change the category and Web Search type.
Another important function of this feature is the “Compare” tool.
To use this, you should click the button, and then you can go on to type the counterpart of your term.
Still using the example given above about face powder, let’s try comparing it with the keyword “cosmetic powder”.
Based on the results, we can conclude that using “cosmetic powder” as your main keyword won’t be of much help to your website and product, itself.
Having a good sense of SEO on your product pages is important to rank up on search engines; this is especially true on Google.
This is necessary because this will help you generate more relevant traffic on your site.
Keep Track of Your Competition Level
Monitoring your competitors and your current standing in the competition will also help you optimize your website.
This can also be done through the “Compare” function that was discussed earlier.
For this, we are going to use two popular brands — Nike, and Adidas.
Now, if you are with Nike and you want to know if you are either ahead or behind Adidas, you can refer to the data above to show that your popularity is significantly higher than that of your competitor’s.
Land on Related Topics
On the same “Explore” tab, you will see 2 separate sections — (1) Related Topics, and (2) Related Queries.
In Related Topics, you will see the niches connected to your keyword or product.
You can use this as a basis for future content by making articles about the topic, or simply integrating the topics’ keywords on your pages.
This will allow a broader coverage for your website and attract larger number of leads.
Related queries, on the other hand, shows related search results.
You can see queries here that you can either use as a keyword alternative or relevant products that you can add to your product page and catalogue choices.
Determine Ideal Marketing Period
Google Trend does not only let you in trending topics and keywords.
If used in the right way, you can also use the data you are gathering to learn the ideal season for product promotion and marketing.
With a different example for this section, let’s go for the keyword “mosquito repellent”.
If you are starting out in selling mosquito repellent, you would want to determine the best time to drive marketing campaigns.
Basing on the data above, the lowest search rate amounts to 24 and is found on the month of December. It stayed on the lows until April.
This took its time to gradually increase to the highest search rate which is 100.
This was recorded within the span of May to July. The peak, however, was found in June specifically.
From there, you can make out the data that the idea marketing season for your product is within the late spring and summer season.
When you navigate down the page, you will see information regarding the regions that take best interest in mosquito repellent.
Now, how will this info help you?
You can use this as a basis on which countries you need to target most in the promotion period.
Considering the results and their demographical data, it is safe to say that the possible best locations are those that have humid weather.
Broaden Platform Research
As you may have already known, a search engine is not the only platform you should prioritize.
For this reason, you should also look up your chosen keyword on shopping and video platforms.
To do this, you can adjust the type of search on the Web Search drag-down button.
You can set it to either of the following: Image Search, News Search, Google Shopping, and YouTube Search.
In the field of ecommerce, the most recommended tab that you should keep track of is Google Shopping and YouTube Search.
Google Shopping will show how many users searched for “mosquito repellent”. This is different compared to Web Search in a sense that the data gathered in this section are narrowed down into users who actually have the intention of buying.
This gives more accurate purchasing-related results and will help you with marketing decisions later on.
A big advantage of YouTube is that it is not just an application where you can watch videos.
It is also a search engine, itself. This means that it is also a very ideal platform to make your brand known in order to attract traffic and leads.
You can use this additional data to compare web searches and YouTube searches and understand the efficiency of using videos rather than relying on articles only.
